Captain James Cook became the first European to visit the Sandwich Islands, aka Hawaii, in 1778.

 

Arriving in Australia’s Botany Bay in the year 1788 was the First Fleet, carrying convicts and sheep.

 

The Nazi siege of Leningrad was broken in the year 1943.

 

All 50 states joined in 1993 to observe Martin Luther King, Jr.day.
